Here's what our guests enjoy most, with drive times from the cabin.
Luray Caverns, the largest in Virginia (20 min). Skyline Caverns near Front Royal (20 min). See our Luray Caverns page for a full day plan.
The Thornton Gap entrance to Skyline Drive is 20 minutes away and the Front Royal entrance is 24 minutes. The closest park trail starts about 10 minutes from the cabin. See our Shenandoah National Park page for hikes.
Tubing from the neighborhood access points, or rent tubes, kayaks and canoes from Shenandoah River Outfitters (10 min, May to September). Downriver Canoe Company runs guided trips (25 min). Shenandoah River State Park has flat river trails and the Cullers Overlook boardwalk (14 min).
Castle Vineyards (11 min, our favorite for sunset), Wisteria Farm and Vineyard (25 min) and Pen Druid Brewing.
Bear Mountain Ziplines (20 min), Shenandoah Valley Axe Throwing Co. (18 min, live music most Friday and Saturday nights) and guided trail rides at Fort Valley Ranch (30 min).
In Luray: Circa '31 at the Mimslyn Inn, The Speakeasy, Gathering Grounds Café, Broad Porch Coffee Co., Il Vesuvio, Dominico's Italian and Flotzies soft-serve (March to October). Worth the drive: Osteria Maria in Front Royal (our favorite), Element, Khukuri, C&C Frozen Treats, and Three Blacksmiths in Sperryville (book months ahead). Some kitchens close Monday and Tuesday in winter.
We don't get anything for these recommendations. They're just places we and past guests like.
